Andy Badrick

Elected 2019

Andy’s involvement with the Petone FC goes back as far as 1984 when he first joined the 1st team from Stokes Valley.

During that time he has made significant contributions to the club. First and foremost as a 1st team player, but also as an Administrator over different periods and in a number of roles. Andy has coached various teams over several years, as well as undertaking many activities supporting the club that he would just get on and do if he couldn’t find others to help.

Andy had a long and distinguished career as a player making 230 1st team league appearances from 1984 – 1994, scoring 23 goals in the process, with a lone appearance in 1999. For a long time, his name topped the appearances list on the Honours Board before being overtaken by Davey Lane in recent years. Andy also won the Footballer of the Year trophy in 1989.

In Andy was coached by Barry Pickering, where he was an invaluable, hard-working midfielder who was well respected by his teammates. During this time, he also appeared for Hutt Valley United when Petone was part of the National League and was a member of the squad that last won the Central League in 1990.

Andy became the assistant 1st team coach in 1999 and 2000 and joint Reserve team coach in 2001. His coaching took a back seat until 2013 when he coached the Under 17 second team for two years, and jointly coached the 4th team in 2015. A significant fact about this was that he coached age group teams whilst not having his own kids involved. He also helped coach the women’s teams when others were away.

Andy was elected onto the Management Committee member in 2004 and became the Treasurer, a role which the club had struggled to fill. Andy held this role for 5 years, including a couple of years on the Men’s Football Committee, before heading overseas for work for the first time.

Andy kept in contact when he was away and upon his return provided valuable contributions to the running of men’s football and in 2014 became a member of the Football Advisory Committee. Andy came back onto the Executive Committee in 2016 and immediately picked up the vacant Chairman’s role which he held until going overseas again for work at the end of 2018.
